William Randolph Hearst:
William Randolph Hearst was born on April 29th 1863 in San Francisco, California. He was an only child. His parents were George and Phoebe Hearst. George Hearst was a wealthy man in result of many good mining interests. At age ten, Hearst and is mother went to tour Europe. This gave him inspiration from the castles, art and history. Hearst was enrolled into a preparatory school in Concord, New Hampshire at the age of 16. In addition, Hearst continued his education at Harvard University. Hearst became a very important person in the twentieth century. He influenced publishing, politics, Hollywood, the art world, and everyday American life. His architectural skills resulted in the most daring architectural piece in American history. It was called Hearst Castle. While Hearst was at Harvard, his father collected the San Francisco Examiner as payment for a gambling debt. Shortly after, Hearst purchased another newspaper, the ‘New York Journal’. This newspaper ranked second in the long list of newspaper holdings that Hearst collected in the next decade of his life. He then joined forces with Joseph Pulitzer and they continued to practically rule New York City.
